TORO - Texas Off-Road Racing Organization
Pre-Race Recon: #703 Crafton, Tx

Overview

RFC Ministries – at the direction of Kevin Lowrimore and Joe McClellan have put together a 90% (at least!) new race course for TORO members to enjoy! This is an incredible amount of work so if you have the opportunity to say "THANK YOU!" to them – please do so!

This seven mile course is basically cut up to two sides of the property. One side is fast and flowing with a very creative mixture of nice, short woods sections to challenge your turning abilities through the trees; broken up by fast, fun grass track. There is a creek jump that can not be rolled (so look for the signs) and an alternate to take, if you are not a jumper. There is also one hill climb on this side that you need a good run at to carry your momentum to the top. Look for "no-see-ums" or "gotchas" – rocks or limbs in the course that can kick you out with little warning. Practice should clear most of this out of the course, but don’t stray into the tall grass on the grass track or you may find these once again. There is also a short rock garden to carefully pick your way through – watch for the danger markers.

The other side of the property is more technically challenging. The woods sections are longer, but look for lines – Joe has put all kinds of lines through the trees to allow some passing to take place. Along one of the connecting roads, they have built a short jump section to air it out a little… or roll, if you don’t jump and then back into the woods. You dip down into a creek bed where there are some rocks strategically placed to slow your pace a bit and another drop down into a creek with a new rock ledge hill to pick a line up from the many available. Only one hill on this side of the property looked familiar – all other trail was new! Joe also tested your downhill riding abilities, by marking in a nice rock-laden down into the trees and another of the hills to go up that may be a little too much of a challenge for some, has an alternate marked around it.

When you break out of this side you will be treated to a really nicely put together extreme section – or if that’s not your cup of tea – you can ride the alternate around it – then back over to the other side.

All in all – this is a NEW CRAFTON and MAN WAS IT FUN!

The pee-wee track is totally different this year. The kids will be racing on the motocross track with a small amount of woods thrown in. All of the jumps are safe and can be rolled. The track is 1 mile long and is a mix of sand & hard pack. There is also a mini extreme section with an easy alternate for the beginner racers. Spectating will be excellent. You can easily see the entire course from the middle of the track.

Thank you to the Becks, Baileys, Ottos, Joe, Kevin, and all of the others with RFC Ministries that helped in this effort and helped with the helmet cam footage for the recon! WE CAN NOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!

Directions

From the North Dallas area take I-35 North to Denton to 380 West to Decatur. In Decatur, take 81/287 North toward Alvord. As you get into the Alvord area, look for 1655. Turn west, (left as you come from Decatur). About 1.7 miles later, there is a small road to the right, there's not much warning, and not much marking, its 2265, turn right there. It's 9.1 miles to the next turn and that's called 2127, turn right. 2.4 miles farther is the entrance, it's called 1990 in Crafton. There's a cemetery on the right. It's a dirt road. Cross the cattle guard, the track is on the left.
