Pre-Race Recon: #802 Crafton, Tx

Overview

RFC Ministries, at the direction of Joe McClellan, have put together fun, flowing and at times, challenging course for TORO to enjoy.

This nine mile course is basically cut up to two sides of the property. One side is fast and flowing with a very creative mixture of nice, short woods sections to challenge your turning abilities through the trees; broken up by fast, fun grass track. Look for “no-see-ums” or “gotchas” – rocks or limbs in the course that can kick you out with little warning. Practice should clear most of this out of the course, but don’t stray into the tall grass on the grass track or you may find these once again.

The other side of the property is more technically challenging. The woods sections are longer, but look for lines – Joe has put all kinds of lines through the trees to allow some passing to take place. You dip down into a creek bed where there are some rocks strategically placed to slow your pace a bit and another drop down into a creek with a rock ledge hill to pick a line up from the many available. Joe has also tested your downhill riding abilities, by marking in a couple nice rock-laden downs into the trees.

When you break out of this side you will be treated to a really nicely put together extreme section – or if that’s not your cup of tea – you can ride the alternate around it – then back over to the other side.

Thank you to the Becks, Joe, Todd Slavik and Colby Bolling for their help with the helmet cam footage for the recon and to Brittany for helping me with some marking and photos! WE CAN NOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!

The PW course is about a mile of all woods that is to the left as you enter the property.

Camping will be to the right as you enter the property. There is a small MX section in the middle part of camping that is not being used as track this year – it is part of the pits so PIT RULES APPLY!

MAKE SURE YOU BAG YOUR TRASH AND TAKE IT WITH. If you are hanging out around the TORO trailer and have trash, there are several bags at and in the trailer – use them please. DO NOT THROW TRASH ON THE GROUND!

There was moisture in the ground when we were there this past weekend and they expect a little more early in the week. It should be just enough to make the course great and keep the dust level down some.

No campfires.

Directions

From the North Dallas area take I-35 North to Denton to 380 West to Decatur. In Decatur, take 81/287 North toward Alvord. As you get into the Alvord area, look for 1655. Turn west, (left as you come from Decatur). About 1.7 miles later, there is a small road to the right, there's not much warning, and not much marking, its 2265, turn right there. It's 9.1 miles to the next turn and that's called 2127, turn right. 2.4 miles farther is the entrance, it's called 1990 in Crafton. There's a cemetery on the right. It's a dirt road. Cross the cattle guard, the track is on the left.
